Rheology data, mechanical testing data, and DMA data of natural rubber and SSBR crosslinked in the presence of layered double hydroxides. In this study layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were investigated as alternative crosslinking agents to ZnO in order to either reduce or eliminate Zn in the vulcanisation formulation. The Ref-3 samples for both NR and IR have reduced ZnO content so that the sample has a molar amount of Zn that is equivalent to the molar amount of Zn present in 9 phr of the CaZnAl-St LDH. The composites were prepared using a Haake Polylab Rheomix 600 at 60 °C and 50 rpm for a total of 14 minutes, including the mastication step. The rubber was masticated for 2 minutes, after which components were added at 2 minute intervals in the following order: LDH, ZnO, stearic acid, S and TBBS. The mixing was then continued for another 2 minutes. The reference samples did not contain LDH so the step introducing the LDH was skipped, but the total mixing time was kept constant. The samples were then pressed into 2 mm thick sheets using a hydraulic press at 150 kN and 150 °C for t90 + 2 minutes.
