资源简介:

This dataset from the Digital Voices of War project documents the codebook and corpus composition used for a qualitative case study of foreign volunteers' social-media communication during the Russo-Ukrainian War. The research corpus comprises 619 posts published between February 2022 and December 2023 by two public accounts: Macer Gifford (`@macergifford`, 465 posts) and Maxime Barrat (`@MaxAzadi`, 154 posts). The deposit contains two reusable components: (1) an overview of the public accounts and the number, languages, and temporal coverage of posts included in the research corpus; and (2) the thematic codebook used to analyse military participation, legitimacy, foreign-volunteer identity, transnational solidarity, combat and technology, danger and vulnerability, heroic masculinity, everyday life, humanitarian activity, audience mobilisation, fundraising, and enemy or victory narratives. To minimise redistribution of personal and platform content, the deposit does not include post texts, photographs, videos, GIFs, replies, hyperlinks, post URLs, engagement metrics, or post-level code assignments. The corpus was assembled retrospectively in 2026 and is affected by deleted or restricted posts, inaccessible media, platform search and recommendation systems, linguistic selection, and purposive sampling. It is therefore intended for qualitative and methodological reuse rather than representative inference about all foreign volunteers or wartime social-media communication. The December 2023 end date is a research cut-off and does not represent the end of the ongoing war.
