Dinoflagellates represent major contributors to the harmful algal blooms in the oceans. Phosphorus (P) is a limiting macronutrient for dinoflagellate growth and productivity in the ocean. Much efforts have been devoted to the physiological response of marine dinoflagellates to ambient P change, however, the whole-genome molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we utilized RNA-Seq to compare the global gene expression patterns of a marine diarrheic shellfish poisoning (DSP) toxin-producing dinoflagellate Prorocentrum lima grown in inorganic P-replete and P-deficient conditions.
