WAIN dataset: a large dataset of Watershed Attributes over the Indian Subcontinent

We present one of the most comprehensive large datasets of watersheds over the Indian Subcontinent, “WAIN”. The watershed attributes for India (WAIN) consist of eight important watershed characteristics, including topography, geology and groundwater, soil, Land Use and Land Cover (LULC), climate, streamflow, human disturbance, and human-induced activities. These eight watershed characteristics were developed using various reanalysis, observed, and remote-sensing data for more than 4300 watersheds (streamflow gauge stations watershed) in the Indian Subcontinent. Moreover, a large number of attributes were estimated for each watershed characteristic of the streamflow gauge station. Overall, the WAIN data provides comprehensive information on the majority of river basins in the Indian Subcontinent for scientific research and various other applications. With WAIN datasets, a large number of studies can be conducted across the Indian subcontinent to address the various unsolved hydrometeorological issues. Moreover, the WAIN dataset is helpful for understanding various hydroclimatic processes using advanced techniques (like artificial intelligence and machine learning) and hydrological modeling where a large amount of dataset is a prerequisite.
