Bilingual Texts on papyrus and parchment contained in the collection of the Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University

The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University, Sydney, holds some 700 papyri, mainly in Greek, but also in other languages and scripts, such as Demotic and Coptic (Egyptian). Most are written on papyrus, but the collection also includes some texts on ostraca (potsherd), parchment, and wood. Most of the texts date from the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD. The Museum holds 26 bilingual texts on papyrus. These are written in Greek and Demotic, or Greek and Coptic. In some cases, texts in these languages are on opposite sides of the papyrus. All come from Egypt, but the exact provenance is not always known. They date from the Ptolemaic (Greek / Demotic), and Late Roman / Early Islamic (Greek / Coptic) periods.
