Multilingual Filipino Adolescents’ Everyday Digital Literacy Practices: Negotiating Languages in Digital Spaces

This study investigates multilingual Filipino adolescents’ everyday digital literacy practices. Informed by Literacy Studies perspectives, it aimed to understand how these adolescents engage with digital environments, what languages they use in these spaces, and how they view the role of different languages in their practices. Findings suggest that they engaged in everyday digital literacy practices for various purposes. Importantly, social interactions were central to all of these practices. Although they were multilingual, they mainly used English to interact with diverse audiences because they viewed them as English speakers. They believed that using English could provide opportunities to improve themselves.
