Wessex Water Catchment Rain Gauge Data

Wessex Water have fourteen rain gauges located across the Wessex region. We use this data to understand the rainfall patterns across our region. Wessex Water utilise rainfall data across multiple departments to aid in many aspects of day-to-day operations. On large scales, rainfall data are used to help predict storm overflow events or issues with water resources. On smaller scales, it is used to inform when environmental water quality sampling should take place or to put water quality data into context. This dataset shows the amount of precipitation measured in tipping bucket rain gauges each day at these locations. The data are obtained from 0.2 mm tipping bucket rain gauges. A logger detects a tip from the tipping bucket and stores this data. The logger connects to the telemetry server and uploads the data daily. These data are stored in a database and the earliest records begin in 2012. To ensure data robustness, tipping buckets are visited routinely for data downloads and maintenance (approximately monthly). The location information is the greatest accuracy possible for open publication.
