Skin dysbiosis and loss of microbiome site-specificity in critically ill patients

The skin microbiome of five different body sites in ICU-patients was characterized at time of admission and compared to a healthy cohort. In this multicenter study, we observed a strong dysbiosis on the skin of these critically ill patients, which was defined by the loss of body site-specificity and an overrepresentation of gut bacteria in all skin sites.
