FHIT gene expression is lost or decreased in >50% of human cancers, with loss occurring during the preneoplastic process. To further define the extent of single-base substitutions associated with loss of Fhit expression, we sequenced exomes of genomic DNAs from wild type and Fhit-/- mouse kidney cell lines and liver tissues, with and without exposure to the carcinogen, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA).
