From our RNA-seq results, the metallothionein family members and several members of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein gene family are the top genes that are upregulated by increasing Zn concentration in human iPS cells. Overall design: To understand the impact of zinc in undifferentiated human induced pluripotent stem cells, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed, analyzing the global expression profile of pluripotent human iPS cells after culturing for 48 h under graded concentrations of Zn (0,0.5, 3, and 10 µM).
