1 km annual forest cover and plant functional types dataset for China from 1980 to 2023

This dataset provides two main sets of annual raster data products for the China region at a 1 km spatial resolution: Forest Cover from 1980 to 2023, and Plant Functional Types (PFT) from 1981 to 2013. Additionally, it includes detection results for change events, including forest change (gain and loss) for the 1980–2023 period and PFT change (gain and loss) for the 1981–2013 period. These change products specify the start year and duration of each event.These data products were generated by integrating spatial constraints from multi-source remote sensing data with provincial-level statistics from China’s National Forest Inventories (NFIs). From the primary forest cover dataset, an annual Plant Functional Type (PFT) dataset was further developed, disaggregating the total forest cover into eight distinct types. The dataset aims to provide a high-quality, long-term, and spatially explicit forcing dataset suitable for Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs) to support studies on China's terrestrial carbon balance, assess the ecological impacts of forest restoration, and constrain estimates of the national forest carbon sink since 1980.
本数据集为中国区域提供两类核心年度栅格数据产品,空间分辨率均为1千米:一是1980年至2023年的森林覆盖数据,二是1981年至2013年的植物功能型(Plant Functional Types, PFT)数据。此外,数据集还包含变化事件检测成果,涵盖1980–2023年的森林变化(包括增益与损失)以及1981–2013年的植物功能型变化(增益与损失),每类变化产品均标注了各事件的起始年份与持续时长。上述数据产品通过整合多源遥感数据的空间约束条件与中国国家森林资源清查(National Forest Inventories, NFIs)的省级统计数据生成。从核心森林覆盖数据集进一步衍生出年度植物功能型数据集,将总森林覆盖划分为8种不同类型。本数据集旨在提供高质量、长时序、空间显式的驱动数据集,适用于动态全球植被模型(Dynamic Global Vegetation Models, DGVMs),可用于支撑中国陆地碳平衡相关研究、评估森林恢复的生态影响,以及约束1980年以来全国森林碳汇的估算工作。
