A gonad photographs dataset for fish of commercial interest

This dataset was established during a one year project under the IFREMER (Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer) for the harmonisation of maturity data acquisition methods for bony fish of commercial interest, with the help of scientific campaign CGFS, EVHOE, IBTS and ACCOBIOM (Auber et al., 2021, Laffargue et al.,1987, Le Roy et al., 1988). This dataset contains 3642 standardised gonad’s macroscopic photos of 59 species of fish of commercial interests collected along the European coastal water and the Caribbean Sea in 2021/2022. The scale used throughout this project is the ICES maturity scale “WKASMSF” (ICES, 2018). This dataset is associated with a GitHub page hosting tools to generate maturity identification forms for fish of commercial interest. To have more detail about identification forms files and have the latest update, check the GitHub page “MaturityScaleTools” (LM-Anna/MaturityScaleTools: Maturity scale tools to identify visual maturity phases (github.com)). This dataset is meant to be enriched with time. Photos may be added to complete the missing maturity phases for every species of the world. To have more details about the dataset or to add new photos, please contact [e-mail] or [e-mail]. <strong>Images:</strong> <strong>Photo_MATURITY.zip</strong> : archive in zip format of 3642 macroscopic photographs of gonads (.JPG; 2Mo-6Mo; sRGB; 1080p). Each photo was taken with the same camera (OLYMPUS / Tough F2.0), on the same white background, with homogeneous lighting to avoid glints from overexposure. Since there are no duplicated photos’ names because all photos were taken with the same camera, names correspond to the one generated by the camera. Photos are sorted under three levels of directories : <strong>First level :<em> species’ scientific name</em></strong> (Example : <em>Dicentrarchus labrax</em>) : there are currently 59 different species listed <strong>Second level :<em> F or M</em> </strong>: the sex, with F from females and M for male <strong>Third level : <em>A, B, C, D, E or F</em> </strong>: the maturity phases of the ICES 2018 scale. In each folder are assigned the corresponding gonadic photos. <strong>Data frames:</strong> <strong>photo_mat.xlsx</strong> (13 columns / 3642 rows): data table (Excel format) listing all photos in the Photo_MATURITY database, as well as the data associated with the photos. 本数据集依托法国海洋开发研究院（IFREMER, Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer）为期一年的项目构建，旨在统一经济硬骨鱼类的性腺数据采集方法，项目得到了CGFS、EVHOE、IBTS与ACCOBIOM等科学调查的支持（Auber et al., 2021; Laffargue et al., 1987; Le Roy et al., 1988）。
本数据集共包含2021/2022年于欧洲沿海及加勒比海采集的59种经济鱼类的3642张标准化性腺宏观照片。本项目全程采用国际海洋考察理事会（ICES）“WKASMSF”性腺成熟度分级标准（ICES, 2018）。如需了解本数据库照片拍摄的详细流程，请参考Le Meleder等人（2022）发布的《鱼类性腺摄影规范》。

<strong>图像：</strong> <strong>"Photo_MATURITY.zip"</strong>：包含3642张性腺宏观照片的ZIP压缩归档文件（.JPG格式；文件大小2Mo-6Mo；sRGB色彩空间；1080p分辨率）。所有照片均采用同一台相机（OLYMPUS / Tough F2.0）拍摄，拍摄背景为统一白色底板，光照均匀以避免过曝产生反光。由于所有照片均由同一台相机拍摄，文件名均为相机自动生成，无重复命名情况。照片按三级目录结构分类存储：
<strong>一级目录：<em>物种学名</em></strong>（示例：<em>Dicentrarchus labrax</em>），当前共收录59个物种；
<strong>二级目录：<em>F 或 M</em></strong>：代表性别，F为雌性，M为雄性；
<strong>三级目录：<em>A、B、C、D、E 或 F</em></strong>：对应ICES 2018标准的性腺成熟阶段，各文件夹内存储对应阶段的性腺照片。
<strong>数据表：</strong> <strong>"photo_mat.xlsx"</strong>（13列，3642行）：该Excel格式数据表汇总了Photo_MATURITY数据库内的所有照片及其关联元数据。数据表各字段说明如下（单条照片记录）：
- "Name"：照片文件名
- "Type"：性腺照片类型（INT = 无内脏的内部视图，INT ORG = 带内脏的内部视图，EXT = 外部视图，EXT OUV = 外部开放视图，FLUANT = 流质状视图）
- "sppeng"：用于鉴定表的物种/物种组的英文俗名
- "Species"：用于鉴定指南的物种/物种组的学名
- "Sex"：鱼类性别（M = 雄性，F = 雌性）
- "phase ID"：目视评估的性腺成熟阶段（遵循ICES WKASMSF标准：A、B、C、D、E或F）

- "Area"：科学调查开展的地理区域（ICES区域或其他区域：加勒比海=加勒比海水域，IVb-c = IBTS调查的ICES区域，NA = 区域未知，VIId = 北英吉利海峡调查的ICES区域，VIId/VIIe = CGFS调查的ICES区域，VIIg/VIIj/VIIh/VIIIa-b = EVHOE调查的ICES区域）
