Context CrimeIndex

Context CrimeIndex is available for the following Precisely Boundary polygon products and it measures the likelihood that criminal activity may occur within associated Precisely Boundaries in the US and Puerto Rico, according to 11 crime types:

- Neighborhood Boundaries
- Residential Boundaries
- ZIP Code Boundaries

Context CrimeIndex scores data and geographies are linked by unique IDs. A universal Context ID links to a polygon ID. In this listing we also have included the separately licensed Precisely Zip Code Boundaries and Centroids Product to demonstrate this linkage via a query.

Each crime variable includes both a numerical score – where higher values denote the increased likelihood of criminal activity – and a qualitative categorization that helps explain the relative crime level when compared to the Nation as a whole. A state-wise score is also provided to allow users to perform in-state comparisons of geographic areas. This set of variables (crime scores and qualitative categories) has been built and linked to Precisely Boundaries to create the Context CrimeIndex data product.

A CrimeIndex score of 100 indicates a crime rate equal to the national or state level. A CrimeIndex score of less than 100 indicates that the crime rate for that locality is below the national/state average. A CrimeIndex score above 100 shows that the crime rate for that locality is above the national/state average. For example, an Overall Crime Score of 300 would indicate the crime rate for that locality is 3 times the national average.
