Genomic perspectives on NDM Salmonella Typhi, and a case report from India

This is the first documented case of Salmonella Typhi carrying the blaNDM-5 gene in India. The presence of this carbapenemase gene in S. Typhi represents a significant public health concern due to its multidrug-resistant nature and potential for horizontal gene transfer to other bacterial species. This finding underscores the importance of ongoing genomic surveillance to track the spread of resistant strains and inform effective treatment strategies.
