The large, monophyletic (all species share a common ancestor) family Tortricidae, also known as the leafroller moths or tortrix moths, belongs to the order Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies). There are at least 86 species in Hawai'i, 74 of which are endemic and 11 that are alien. According to researchers, it is likely that many more undiscovered endemic species exist in Hawai'i, while others may have gone extinct. Endemism of a species can pertain to a particular island, or to the entire state of Hawai'i. The two subfamilies found here are Tortricinae and Olethreutnae. Tortricinae moths exhibit a "bell-shape" and have wings that appear flat over the back, while Olethreutnae moths are more narrow with "tent-like" wings. Your transcriptions can help us at the UHIM expand our knowledge on the Tortricidae moths of Hawai’i! The total number of tasks for this dataset is: 404, number transcribed is 404 and number validated is 0.
