Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at Bullwood Hall, Hockley, Essex, July 2017

This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and CAD data from an archaeological evaluation carried out by Archaeology South-East on land on the site of Bullwood Hall, Bullwood Hall Lane, Hockley, Essex, in July 2017. The fieldwork was undertaken in advance of residential development on behalf of Sanctuary Housing. Twelve evaluation trenches were excavated across the accessible areas of the circa 4.2 hectares former prison site. Apart from a single flint scraper of Mesolithic or Neolithic date retrieved from the subsoil no archaeological remains were encountered. The evaluation showed that the site had been subject to reasonably heavy truncation caused by the construction of Bullwood Hall and its outbuildings as well as landscaping of the grounds.
