A Chromosome-level genome assembly of the Walking goby Scartelaos histophorus

The Walking goby (<em>Scartelaos histophorus</em>) belongs to the group known as mudskippers (Gobiiformes, Oxudercidae) and is an ecologically important fish. Mudskipper adaptations to terrestrial environments (e.g., mudflat and mangroves) require numerous physiological, behavioral, and anatomical adaptations, making them a model animal to study water-to-land transition mechanism in vertebrates. High-quality reference genome can provide insights into the molecular evolution of water-to-land transition. In this study, we assembly a high-quality chromosome-level genome of the Walking goby using PacBio CCS and Hi-C technology.
