Effects of a transient lack of dietary mineral phosphorus on renal gene expression and plasma metabolites in two high-yielding laying hen strains

Calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) are essential micronutrients that are linked to a wide set of biological processes. A deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of Ca- and P-utilization in laying hens could help to reduce the environmental impact. Kidney tissue play an important role in mineral utilization. The experimental design comprises two dietray groups which differ in mineral P content. Moreover, two genetic strains (LSL or LB) were used and sampled before and after sexual maturation (19 or 24 weeks). Transcriptome profiles of kidney tissue were assessed by mRNA sequencing in total 80 birds to approximate the consequences of variable P supply due to status of maturation and genetic background.
