CULTURAL CHALLENGES IN TRANSLATING ART CRITICISM TEXTS

This article investigates cultural challenges in translating English art criticism texts into Russian, with particular attention to how evaluative stance, art-historical allusion, and institutional genres are reconfigured in cross-cultural transfer. The study aims to identify recurrent culturally driven translation problems and to outline a framework that preserves the critic’s voice while maintaining interpretive responsibility. Methodologically, it combines discourse analysis with comparative translation analysis of a curated corpus of contemporary exhibition reviews, catalogue essays, and museum press releases. The paper’s novelty consists in modeling culture-sensitive meaning in art criticism through three interacting dimensions: axiological positioning, intertextual art memory, and genre-institutional conventions, and in linking these dimensions to typical Russian rendering patterns. Practical relevance is demonstrated through decision principles that support terminological coherence, pragmatic adequacy, and stylistic credibility for translators and editors working with art-critical prose.本文针对英语艺术批评文本俄译过程中的文化挑战展开研究，重点考察评价立场、艺术史典故与制度性体裁在跨文化转译中的重构路径。本研究旨在识别反复出现的文化驱动型翻译难题，并构建一套既能保留批评家原初发声，又能恪守阐释责任的译介框架。方法论层面，本研究将话语分析与比较翻译分析相结合，其研究语料为经筛选的当代展览评论、展览图录文论及博物馆新闻稿。本研究的创新之处在于，通过价值论定位、互文艺术记忆与体裁-制度惯例三个交互维度，对艺术批评中具有文化敏感性的语义进行建模，并将这些维度与典型俄语译法模式建立关联。针对从事艺术批评文本译介的译者与编辑，本研究通过一系列决策原则论证了其实践价值，这些原则可保障术语一致性、语用适配性与风格可信度。
