This study aims to investigate the attitudes, perceived benefits, and perceived risks associated with using insects in animal feed among non-vegetarian sport enthusiasts, as well as their willingness to accept such feed practices and pay for animal products derived from insect-fed animals. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted among individuals who met the following criteria: non-vegetarians, at least one year of sport experience, and attention to the intake of animal-derived protein. A total of 420 valid responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and logistic regression to assess how socio-demographic factors, attitudes, and perceptions influenced acceptance and willingness to pay for insect-based feed practices. Positive attitudes towards using insects in animal feed significantly increased both acceptance and willingness to pay a premium (above 10 yuan/kg) for resulting animal products. Male participants and those who perceived greater benefits from insect feed were also more likely to pay a higher price. The findings suggest general acceptability of insect feed among non-vegetarian sport enthusiasts. This study provides novel insights into a niche consumer segment, non-vegetarian sport enthusiasts, who are attentive to dietary protein sources, offering a unique perspective on the acceptance and market potential of insect-based animal feed.
