Dayr Mar Elian esh Sharqi (the monastery of St. Julian of the East) lies 5km north-west of the village of Qaryatayn in the Syrian desert. Local legend attributes the foundation of the monastery to late antiquity. Archaeological investigation of the site began in 2001. AHDS Archaeology has archived a collection of photographs taken during these investigations which can be viewed on-line.
