Research Support Services in Odisha State Universities: An Analysis of Libraries Preparedness towards Fostering Research Excellence

Purpose: Recognised as a progressive state in education, Odisha has established its distinctive identity for academic excellence, facilities, erudition, and experienced faculty. In addition, the country's education ministry is also endeavouring to improve quality as well as quantity in the field of research. Through this research, an attempt has been made to understand the role of the university and its libraries in aligning with current research trends. An attempt has also been made to understand their awareness and the extent of the problems they face in providing research support services (RSS). Methodology: The study is a survey-based study on the practical implementation of Research Support Services (RSS) in Odisha State Public Universities. Respondents were sent a set of structured questionnaires to answer the research questions, which were further analysed using an Excel file created from Google Forms and Jamovi AI. Findings: It is pleasing to find the result from the library showing their preparedness and updated skills with the latest and advanced technology. Regarding RSS, the University of Odisha is well aware and prepared for integrating advanced tools to support researchers. Further concerned is the lack of supporting staff in the university library to implement a fullfledged RSS. Also, it is revealed that the university is still concentrating on MS Excel in data analysis. In contrast, advanced qualitative and quantitative data analysis, such as R, SPSS, etc., dominate the scholarly community. Originality: The author personally visited different online databases and open-access journals to collect literature related to RSS. None of the sites produced any of the journal's publications regarding the trending library services, i.e., RSS in Odisha. Hence, this paper remains original at the outset.研究目的：作为教育领域的先进地区，奥里萨邦（Odisha）已凭借卓越的学术水平、完善的办学设施、深厚的学术底蕴与资深的师资队伍，树立了鲜明的办学特色。此外，该国教育部亦致力于提升科研领域的质量与规模。本研究旨在探析大学及其图书馆在契合当前研究趋势中的作用，同时了解其对研究支持服务（Research Support Services, RSS）的认知程度，以及在提供此类服务时面临的各类问题的严重程度。 研究方法：本研究针对奥里萨邦公立大学的研究支持服务实际落地情况开展调研。研究人员向受访者发放了一套结构化问卷以解答研究问题，并基于谷歌表单生成的Excel文件及Jamovi AI开展后续数据分析。 研究发现：令人欣喜的是，调研结果显示各图书馆已做好充足准备，且掌握了最新先进技术的相关技能。就研究支持服务而言，奥里萨大学（University of Odisha）已充分认知并做好了整合先进工具以助力科研人员的准备工作。但仍存在值得关注的问题：大学图书馆缺乏足够的支撑人员以开展完备的研究支持服务。此外，调研发现各高校仍主要依赖微软Excel（Microsoft Excel）开展数据分析，而当前学术圈主流已转向R、SPSS等先进的定性与定量数据分析工具。 研究原创性：作者亲自访问了多个在线数据库与开放获取期刊，以收集与研究支持服务相关的文献。经全面检索，未发现任何关于奥里萨邦地区图书馆研究支持服务这一新兴服务的期刊出版物，因此本研究具备初始原创性。
