Torso of a Statue of Dionysos
Allegedly Asia Minor (Turkey), acquired in 1841Marble, 440 - 440 BC The torso is a Greek original from the High Classical period or an excellent copy from the early Roman imperial age. The damages on the surface make it difficult to decide. The statue with a beardless head must most likely be supplemented by a cantharos in the right and a thyrsos staff in the left hand. This object is part of Scan The World. Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
