The Euphausia superba transcriptome was expanded using 454 pyrosequencing on two cDNA normalized libraries, from whole krill and from krill heads sampled in different seasons. Our sequencing data were combined with the available published data from other large-scale transcriptome sequencing projects in order to produce the first knowledgebase of krill transcriptome. The new “master” transcriptome will provide a major resource for future physiological and molecular studies on krill`s ability to respond to future environmental changes such as elevated seawater temperatures, ocean acidification or water freshening.
