The P fertilizer in the soils of the Fushan mixed hardwood ecosystem was monitored before (Feb 1992) fertilization, and 5 months (July 1992), and 7 years after fertilization treatments of N, P, or complete fertilizer. The P fertilizer was initially located at the top 0-5 cm depth in the P and complete fertilizer treatment plots after fertilization. After 7 years, however, no difference was found for available P in all plots. Major P fraction in all treatments existed in the nonoccluded Fe- and Al-form, which in the long-term would be still released and be available for forest growth. Nonoccluded Fe- and Al-P was highly correlated to available P and the other soil properties related to soil organic matter in this ecosystem.
