Supplementary Material for: Understanding and Improving Diagnostic Tests: The Clinician Perspective

Recent advances in molecular and mass screening technologies have paved the way for discovery of novel diagnostic tests and/or biomarkers for accurate identification of specific diseases and organ injuries. However, new diagnostic tests/biomarkers should be subjected to thorough evaluation before introduction into routine clinical practice. This review focuses on the up-to-date methodology in designing and evaluating diagnostic tests/biomarkers, and assessing their clinical utilities for improving health care efficiency, cost-effectiveness and outcomes. In addition to improved diagnostic utilities, future diagnostic tests should be developed in collaboration with our industrial partners and be applicable at the bedside for disease surveillance.近年来，分子与大规模筛查技术的长足进步，为开发用于精准识别特定疾病与器官损伤的新型诊断检测方法及/或生物标志物（biomarker）开辟了全新路径。然而，新型诊断检测方法与生物标志物在投入常规临床实践前，需经过全面系统的评估论证。本综述围绕诊断检测方法与生物标志物的设计、评估范式，以及评估其临床应用价值以提升医疗服务效率、优化成本效益与改善诊疗结局的前沿方法展开论述。除具备更优异的诊断应用价值外，未来的诊断检测方法还需与产业伙伴协同开发，并可实现床旁应用以开展疾病监测。
