Yaxchilan Lintel 16: Yaxun B'alam IV

[Lintel 16](https://www.peabody.harvard.edu/cmhi/detail.php?num=16&site=Yaxchilan&type=Lintel): Carved limestone lintel with an image of Bird Jaguar IV and a captive at his feet. Bird Jaguar wears the same warrior costume as his father did on Lintel 26 from Structure 23, and carries a spear in his right hand. His captive carries a broken parasol in his right hand. Here Bird Jaguar stands over a captive noble who, judging from the beaded droplets on his nose and cheek, has already let blood. Eight days later when his heir, Shield Jaguar II, was born, Bird Jaguar and one of his other wives performed ritual bloodletting in celebration. Seventy-five days later, on 3 May AD 752, Bird Jaguar was officially installed as king, an event which took place only after the capture of noble prisoners and, in this case, the birth of a male heir.
