To investigate the relative effects of drought and heat on the rice (Oryza sativa) transcriptome, we subjected rice seedlings to 3 levels of long-term drought or 2 levels of short-term heat stock Overall design: Rice was grown for 10 days in 3 water levels: wet/control (3g/g SWC), mild drought (1.5g/g SWC) or severe drought (1.25g/g SWC). At 10 days, additional wet-condition plants were subjected to 30min or 60min heat shock. 3 reps of each condition above were collected at midday (6hr after dawn) for RNA-sequencing.
