Key Scientific Issues and Technological Bottlenecks in the Applications of Organic Optoelectronic Materials

Organic/polymeric optoelectronic materials have always been a key research focus,strongly supported as part of national strategic initiatives and recognized as crucial electronic materials. It is also a research and application field where China is expected to achieve international leadership. Based on the 388th “Shuangqing Forum” organized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China,this paper focuses on several key scientific issues and technological bottlenecks encountered in the application of organic optoelectronic materials,including the contradiction between energy-level alignment and device performance,the challenges in regulating charge carrier transport and recombination processes,as well as material degradation and device failure. It summarizes and refines the fundamental scientific problems limiting the practical application of organic/polymeric optoelectronic materials and devices from the perspectives of organic solar cells,organic light-emitting devices and organic photodetectors. It proposes feasible development recommendations to bridge the gap between basic research and industrial applications from new material-design strategies,synergistic optimization of materials and device architectures,the physical mechanisms of device failure,as well as from new research paradigm and relevant development policies. It also explores future development trends in organic/polymeric optoelectronic materials and provides important theoretical and technical support for the development of strategic emerging industries such as next-generation energy technologies and new display technologies.
