子实体较小或中等大，近球形或扁圆形，土黄色或近橙黄色，直径2-13cm，表面初期近平滑，渐形成龟裂状鳞片，皮层厚，剖面带红色，成熟后变浅色。内部孢体初期灰紫色，后呈黑褐紫色，后期破裂散放孢粉。孢丝厚壁, 褐色, 多分枝, 有锁状联合, 2.5-5.5μm。孢子球形，具网纹突起，褐色，9-12μm。夏秋季生松及阔叶林砂地上，群生或单生。含微毒。

Small to medium-sized, subglobose to depressed-globose, ochraceous to nearly orange-yellow, with a diameter of 2–13 cm. The surface is nearly smooth at first, then gradually develops cracked scales. Its cortex is thick, the cross-section is reddish, and becomes lighter in color when mature. The internal gleba is grayish-purple at first, then turns blackish-brownish purple, and ruptures to release spore powder in the later stage. The capillitium has thick walls, is brown, much branched, with clamp connections, measuring 2.5–5.5 μm. Spores are globose, with reticulate protuberances, brown, 9–12 μm in diameter. It grows solitary or in groups on sandy soils of pine and broad-leaved forests in summer and autumn. It is slightly toxic.
