Forensic Evidence of Predation in the Yangiqo‘rg‘on Sector (May 2026) Section: Behavioral Ecology and Forensic Taphonomy of an Unidentified Cryptic Apex Felid In May 2026, a series of high-impact predation events involving domestic equids (Equus caballus) and a wild mesopredator—the golden jackal (Canis auereus)—was documented within the Terak-Buloq zone of the Yangiqo‘rg‘on sector, Western Tian Shan. Forensic analysis of the carcasses reveals consumption patterns highly characteristic of a massive, structurally proficient apex carnivore utilizing strategic bone-shearing and soft-tissue peeling mechanisms. The equid predation catalog comprises three distinct specimens: two 2-year-old subadult foals and one 1-year-old juvenile foal. Taphonomic examination of the first subadult carcass indicated high-force disarticulation, resulting in the complete extraction and consumption of a single limb. The second subadult specimen exhibited massive, localized consumption confined exclusively to the caudal and pelvic regions, highlighting a species-specific preference for dense muscle tissue. The juvenile foal carcass presented an advanced state of consumption, displaying comprehensive craniofacial skinning where the entire facial dermal and soft-tissue layers were forcefully stripped, leaving the cranial skeleton completely denuded, alongside severe flesh-stripping across the hindquarters. Concurrently, a sympatric golden jackal carcass was recovered within the same micro-sector, displaying catastrophic mechanical trauma. The specimen had been completely severed and dismembered through extreme physical force, a behavioral signature aligned with apex felid territorial suppression and interspecific killing rather than typical foraging. Collectively, these forensic and ethological matrices provide robust empirical evidence of an undocumented, heavy-bodied cryptic predator operating with absolute dominance within the Pskem Basin ecological corridor.
