Elucidating alterations in gene expression driving radioresistance in Escherichia coli

Elucidating the mechanisms of radioresistance in highly radioresistant organisms will provide useful insight into the adaptation of organisms to diverse environments, evolution, and biological diversity. The goal of this project is to analyze gene expression in wild-type E. coli and radioresistant evolved E. coli generated by adaptive evolution experiments with gamma radiation as the selection pressure, and to elucidate the effect of gene expression alterations on radioresistance. This study is expected to provide information on the contribution of gene expression alterations to the evolution of biological defense systems against stress.
