<i>Neisseria meningitidis</i> is a major cause of meningitis and septicaemia worldwide. Due to frequent disease association, several <i>N. meningitidis</i> lineages are classified as hyperinvasive with one, serogroup W clonal complex 11, spreading worldwide over the last 25 years. This lineage exhibits high levels of genetic plasticity. This dataset is related to a demonstration that a rebound in MenW:cc11 disease in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era was associated with isolates belonging to four sub-clusters and provides evidence of evolution of the <i>fetA</i> promoter and repeat region with increases in the tract length from 6C to 8C or longer becoming highly prevalent from 2015 onwards. The files contained in this data set complement data include for a publication entitled "<b>Rapid and recent evolution of</b><b> </b><b><i>fetA</i></b><b> </b><b>phase variability among hyperinvasive MenW:cc11 disease isolates</b>". The files include Newark trees (.nwk) for the pan genome (pangennome_phlyogenetic_tree) and two genes, csw (css_phylogenetic_tree) and fetA (fetA_phylogenetic_tree), utilised for constructing phylogenetic trees. The aligned sequences for the pan genome (pan genome_alignment.fasta.reduced) and fetA nucleotide (fetA_reduced_dna) and amino acid (fetA_reduced_aa) sequences are also included. A final file contain the nucleotide sequences of fetA promoter region (Promoter_strains_fetA_sequence).
