Project Description This dataset includes a subset of data from the SHRP2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS) used to investigate the association between actual driving speeds before known crashes and at other times. Associations were evaluated for the same driver at a location where a crash occurred and similar locations where crashes did not occur, relative to the speeds of other drivers at those locations. Data Request Scope One hundred twelve speed-related crash events were selected via the following query ( InSight website ): (driverBehavior1 IN ('Exceeded speed limit', 'Exceeded safe speed but not speed limit', 'Driving slowly: below speed limit', 'Driving slowly in relation to other traffic: not below speed limit', 'Following too closely'). Roadway Information Database (RID) variables were delivered for the Link IDs associated with the crash event windows. Based on the crash location attributes, five matching baselines were delivered for each crash controlling for similar location, driver, and weather. In addition, ten random baselines were delivered for each crash controlling for location road characteristics and driver. Fifty additional baselines were provided controlling for location and time. Event table, Questionnaire data, and Time Series data were provided for all crash events of interest. Questionnaire data and Time Series data were provided for all baselines. Data Specification The RID layers used in generating location attributes included: AADT, Alignment, Intersections, Lane, Median, and Shoulder.
