"An archaeological survey of the above mentioned project was conducted by the Department's Staff Archaeologist on August 29, 1985. The project is located on an unpaved county road approximately 13 miles northeast of the City of Aiken, and 2.5 miles north of the intersection of the county road and U.S. 1 (see Figure 1). The project would involve replacing the currently washed out timber bridge with a new structure at a new location approximately 340 feet upstream (see Figure 1). The new bridge will be a "modern" precast concrete bridge approximately 120 feet long with a roadway 26 feet wide, supported on pile type bents with a steel beam guardrail. In addition to the new bridge, a total of 1200 feet (600 feet on either side of the new bridge) of newly located approaches will also be constructed. These approaches will measure 18 feet wide, ditch to ditch and will tie in with the existing county road."
