Conservation agriculture research in South Africa

This is a review of results of specific conservation agriculture (CA) research conducted under ASSET Research - comparing on-farm trial results. CA Research is needed to accelerate CA adaptation and adoption - through systems research approaches - in various agro-ecological regions, with - continuous (lifelong) testing (trials) and adaptation of CA principles - to (always) changing environmental, socio-economical and political conditions - in local farming conditions and contexts, working with farmers - With a context-sensitive design, implementation & facilitation (for different farmer categories) - CA is knowledge and management intensive – aim is to develop a fast, adaptive and response farming approach, with no reliance on recipes.
