The ASCAT soil moisture products provide soil water content in the surface layer (< 5 cm) expressed in degree of saturation (0-100%). The ASCAT Surface Soil Moisture (SSM) products are based on backscatter observations from the Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) aboard the series of Metop satellites using a semi-empirical change detection method.
