The WMS service “Human Health” is part of the specialised information system Climate Adaptation (www.klimaanpassung.nrw.de). This wms service describes parameters from the action field “Human Health”. The wms service is divided into two group layers with data on bioclimatic stress and population data. The group layer population data contains information on the number of inhabitants, the population density and the proportion of the population over 65 and under 3 years of age at the community level. Data are available for 2011 and 2030 (population pre-calculation); in addition, the change in 2030 is presented in relation to 2011 of all mentioned parameters. Thus, the group layer contains a total of twelve cards. The data are based on the 2011 census and population projections in NRW based on it, which were carried out by IT.NRW. Population numbers and density have an impact on the urban climate and are also important in the context of demographic change and an ageing population that is more susceptible to heat in climate change. The group layer “Bioclimatic stress” comprises three maps: the bioclimate card, the cold stimulus and the heat load. The maps were calculated on the basis of long-term measurement data by the German Weather Service (DWD). For the reference period 1981-2010, the maps show the expected frequency of heat loads in the summer half-year and cold stimuli in the winter half year as individual values as well as in the bioclimate map.
