EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL FROM THE ROGERS CREEK FAULT, SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Two bulk soil samples from an exploratory trench across the Rogers Creek fault in Sonoma
County, California, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis.
These samples were collected for geologic purposes of constraining the timing of paleoseismic
events on the fault. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially
radiocarbon datable material was separated.

采自美国加利福尼亚州索诺马县罗杰斯溪断层（Rogers Creek fault）探槽的两份批量土壤样品，采用浮选法处理以回收适用于放射性碳分析的有机碎屑。本次采样的地质研究目的为限定该断层上古地震事件的发生时间。研究人员对样品中的植物组分与碎屑炭进行了识别，并分离出潜在可用于放射性碳测年的物质。
