To identify possible flavodoxins or thioredoxins which could replace ferredoxins under iron-limiting conditions, T. kivui (DSM 2030) was cultivated under strictly anoxic conditions in minimal medium, with (0.1mM) or without (0.011 mM) FeSO4, at 66 degrees using 25 mM glucose as substrate. The cells were harvested in the mid-exponential growth-phase and used for transcriptome analysis.
