A new variety of Puccinia coronata, P. coronata var. coronata, has likely recently been introduced to North America. The pathogen causes crown rust disease in two highly invasive plants, glossy buckthorn and reed canarygrass. This project will detect the pathogen across eastern North America, confirming identification by sequencing. Sequenced isolates will be used in host specificity studies.
