Academic Time Tables

The dataset supports an empirical study of manual academic timetabling practice at the Faculty of Management and Commerce (FOMC), PES University, Electronic City Campus, Bengaluru, India, covering eight consecutive semesters from August 2021 to May 2025. The study analyses 13 archival scheduling files containing 134 section-wise timetables across BBA and BCom undergraduate programs. The deposit contains three files: File 1 — Anonymised Timetable Template (Zenodo_File1_Timetable_Template_Anonymised.xlsx): An anonymised version of the section-wise weekly timetable structure used across the study period, including a master faculty allocation sheet. All faculty names have been replaced with generic labels (Faculty A, Faculty B, etc.). Subject names have been generalised. The scheduling structure, period slots, break times, elective stream layout, and co-curricular slot reservations are preserved intact. File 2 — Constraint Coding Protocol (Zenodo_File2_Constraint_Coding_Protocol.docx): The full constraint identification and coding protocol used in the study, including the three decision rules distinguishing Hard, Soft, and Dynamic Hard constraints; coding examples; the eight-category constraint taxonomy with emergence history; single-coder justification and rigour measures; and a semester-by-semester coding cycle record. File 3 — Revision Event Log (Zenodo_File3_Revision_Event_Log.xlsx): A complete log of the 18 mid-semester revision events recorded across the study period, including semester, academic year, cause category, sub-cause description, sections affected, communication lead time, and resolution notes. Summary statistics are included. All faculty names have been anonymised. Raw timetable files containing identifiable faculty information are not shared publicly but are available from the corresponding author (Dr. Chetna Jha, [e-mail]) subject to appropriate confidentiality undertakings.
