Known as 'The Market Cross', this composite two separate sandstone crosses of mid-12th-C date: (a) the base and shaft, and (b) the head. It was assembled from scattered fragments for the Great Industrial Exhibition in Dublin in 1853: the base originally stood in 'the old shambles' which was on W side of Vicar St. it was not erected in the Market Square until 1874. The square tapering base bears the inscription: 'Prayer for Turloch O'Conor ... of Iarlath by whom was made'. There are also two small circular vertical holes, and two pairs of figures in high relief, on the opposing faces.
