Fecal microbiota of Rousettus aegyptiacus Targeted loci environmental

We used a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge to imitate bacterial infection in the Egyptian fruit bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus). We then sampled the gut microbiome (using an anal swab) of LPS bats and control bats (injected with sterile phosphate-buffered saline alone) to examine how sickness affects their microbiome dynamics. Genomic DNA extracted from the fecal samples served as template for amplification of partial 16s rRNA gene (V4 region) and sequenced (illumina MiSeq 2x250 bases).
