Single-cell profiling identifies a specific RPE subset undergoing senescence

To elucidate the classification and function of RPE subsets in the degenerative retina, we used single-cell RNA sequencing on isolated murine RPE-choroidal complex. We identified a novel subpopulation of RPE named R1, which highly expressed IL-6R and senescent marker genes. Overall design: Single cell profiling of RPE choroidal cells derived from PBS or NaIO3 treated mice, using 10X genomic platform.
