VPRS 12766 Subject Files, Technical Services Division

This series consists of general and policy files maintained by the Director, Technical Services Division (TSD) of the Public Transport Corporation (PTC)during the period 1989 to 1991. This Division provided and maintained the infrastructure which supported land public transport and rail freight services in Victoria. The assets for which the Division was responsible included:- Tracks and bridges- Buildings, e.g., stations, and depots- Workshops-train, tram, Light Rail Vehicle and bus fleet overhauls, repair and manufacture- Electric power distribution networks for suburban train, tram, and LRV traction- Signals and communications and associated operational systems, level crossing protective devices.The Director was responsible for PTC Workshops, Works and Services (formerly MET infrastructure and V/Line Project Resources Chief Engineer). He was accountable for:- All major maintenance works- Efficiency and safety of track and overhead- Construction works- Major Projects- Technical Quality Management- Maintenance of professional and technical skills.
