In the present invention， methylation of a target DNA in a plant is suppressed simply and quickly without using a recombinant technology， whereby a plant having desired characteristics is produced. In an RNA-directed DNA methylation mechanism according to the present invention， a scaffold RNA generated by transcription of the target DNA is cleaved.
