Genome sequences of symbiotic bacteria in single Microcystis colonies

Cyanobacterial blooms occur as a result of massive proliferation of cyanobacteria, and have become a worldwide environmental problem. Among several cyanobacterial genera, the unicellular, worldwide distributed cyanobacterium Microcystis is the most representative genus of bloom-forming cyanobacteria. To improve our understanding of the symbiotic relationship within Microcystis colonies, genomes of representative heterotrophic bacteria are desired to be obtained.
