THEORETICAL APPROACHES TO THE POETICS OF THE SHORT STORY

This article explores the poetics of the short story through various theoretical lenses, including formalism, structuralism, narratology, reader-response theory, and cultural criticism. It examines how the short story’s brevity, suggestiveness, and narrative economy shape its artistic form. The study argues that the short story is not a miniature novel, but a distinct literary genre with its own internal principles. Special attention is given to the role of silence, reader interpretation, and genre flexibility, as well as to the short story’s cultural and political significance. The article concludes that the poetics of the short story lie in its ability to produce rich, complex meaning within strict spatial limits.本文以形式主义、结构主义、叙事学、读者反应批评理论及文化批评等多元理论视角为切入点，探析短篇小说的诗学内涵。本文剖析了短篇小说的凝练性、含蓄性与叙事经济性如何塑造其独特艺术形态。本研究指出，短篇小说绝非长篇小说的缩微版本，而是具备自身内在创作规律的独立文学体裁。本文着重探讨了叙事留白、读者解读与体裁灵活性的作用，同时兼顾短篇小说的文化与政治意义。本文最终总结道，短篇小说的诗学精髓在于其能在严苛的篇幅约束中，孕育出丰富且复杂的意义内涵。
