Obesity, characterized by the accumulation of excess fat, is a complex disease resulting from the combination of genetic and epigenetic factors. However, the epigenetic basis of obesity is not well understood. Our study uses NIH3T3 L1 cells to probe how DNA methylation pattern is altered during pre-adipocyte differentiation. DNA methylation may play a role in transcription factor binding and chromatin remodeling. Studies showed that the DNA methylation pattern is dynamic as the differentiation progresses. NIH3T3 L1 cells were differentiated by hormone treatment, and genomic DNA was isolated from undifferentiated and differentiated cells. Global and site-specific changes in DNA methylation were observed upon analysis.
